Boer Goats

G04 Violet and Dallas

Boer Goats, as the name implies, hail from South Africa (Boer is the Afrikaans word for “Farmer”).  Boers are stocky, sturdy, and well-muscled animals that grow quickly - an adult male can reach 350 lbs - yet they have a quiet, gentle personality that melds well with our farm.  We currently have five Fullblood and American Purebred Boer breeding does, and are raising three more doelings  we hope to add to our breeding plan for the Spring 2017 kidding season. All are registered with the American Boer Goat Association.  Our next kids are planned for April/May 2016.  Our flock is CAE negative and is tested annually.

Our two daughters, Holly and Hana, manage and care for the herd and show selected stock at the Hopkinton State Fair each year.  They are responsible for the breeding and management plan, finding and leasing or borrowing bucks for that plan, care, cleaning, feeding, grooming, showing, and marketing.  As of this year, they have also taken over the webpage!

"Do you know when the mountain goats give birth? Do you watch when the doe bears her fawn?  Do you count the months till they bear? Do you know the time they give birth?  They crouch down and bring forth their young; their labor pains are ended.  Their young thrive and grow strong in the wilds; they leave and do not return.” - Job 39:1-4
